“Goodmorning (Pink Ganter Remix)” from Derivatives by William Fitzsimmons (2010) [iTunes | Amazon | WebStore]
This is an excellent, excellent remix of William Fitzsimmons’ “Goodmorning” from The Sparrow and the Crow. It came up on my iPod this morning as I was driving to work, and I immediately felt wide awake. The entire album, Derivatives, is simply delightful.
“A Cheud Dannsa” from The One Thing by Ridgely (1997) [iTunes | Amazon | WebStore]
This is the last track off of Ridgely’s final album, The One Thing. “A Cheud Dannsa” is a beautiful, beautiful Celtic instrumental tune filled with guitar, mandolin, percussion, and bagpipes. Mika and I put it on the short-list for our first dance song at our wedding (we ended up settling on “I Want You to Be My Love” by Over the Rhine).
I tried to look up what “A Cheud Dannsa” meant and discovered (to my surprise) that it was Gaelic for “first dance.” How fitting. I still get chills when it plays.

A few weeks ago I put together an online mixtape using OpenTape, showcasing some of the music that I’ve been listening to lately. Feel free to give it a listen and tell me what you think.

“Lump Sum” from For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver (2005) [iTunes | Amazon]
This is one of my favorite songs off of Bon Iver’s debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago. I love the foggy, dreamy, haunting feel the vocals have over the stripped-down driving guitar.

“Blankets of Night” from Kenotic by Hammock (2005) [iTunes]
This song reminds me of hot summer nights stargazing in Virginia fields. I love Hammock; I’ll always buy every album they put out.
