I woke up this morning and the thermometer showed 0\u00b0F outside. According to the news, that’s about 10\u00b0F colder <\/em>than Philadelphia. \u00a0Yikes. \u00a0Ice was forming on the inside of our sliding glass door to the porch; this is the coldest it’s been all year, by far.<\/p>\n

Mika and I decided to combat the desire to curl up and never leave the bed by cooking banana nut waffles and bacon, which did the trick. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 \u00a0I love Saturday mornings.<\/p>\n

Last night we had dinner with our good friends Natalie, John, and Rachel. \u00a0Natalie and Jon got married this past summer, and this was really the first time that we have had a chance to get together since then. \u00a0Rachel’s birthday is today, so we had some celebrating last night over paella, wine, and a chocolate raspberry cake, topped off with a game of Apples to Apples. \u00a0Evenings like that are what I love about living in Charlottesville, surrounded by friends.<\/p>\n

Tonight, Mika and I are going skiing at Massanutten<\/a>. \u00a0Perhaps with the cold, there will be some good snow up there on the slopes – the snow report<\/a> says that our favorite slope, ParaDice is open and groomed, which is a good sign.<\/p>\n

If you’re in Charlottesville and are not <\/em>going skiing this evening, I’d recommend that you head over to Para Coffee<\/a> over on Elliwood on the Corner and catch the concert that’s going on there tonight from 8:30-10:30pm. It should be a fun night: Hemingstown Radio (David Tewksbury & Jennifer Seidel) with guests The Brothers Juniper (Ben Eppard & Daniel Pope) are playing some progressive alt-folk, all for a $3 cover. \u00a0And the coffee’s good, too.<\/p>\n

Para is a great little coffee house<\/a> with a lot of character run by my friend Eric Kelley and his wife, Lora. \u00a0Besides running the coffee shop, Eric is also a very talented photographer who shot our wedding<\/a> in September. \u00a0Grab a cup and take a seat next time you’re in the area<\/p>\n
